Hyundai Elantra Engine and Powertrain Lineup

The Hyundai Elantra has three engine options in its lineup. Two gas engines and the fourth is a hybrid model.

The base engine is an inline-four at 2.0 liters with 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque paired with the Intelligent Variable Transmission. Next up is a 1.6-liter inline-four with 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. 

Finally. We get to the hybrid powertrain. This one is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder mated to a rechargeable battery. It generates a total system output of 139 horsepower and is paired to a standard six-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai Elantra MPG by Engine 

The base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine gets an EPA-estimated 33 MPG in the city and 43 MPG on the highway, for a combined mileage of an EPA-estimated 37 MPG.1 The 1.6-liter inline-four engine, which is equipped in the N-Line trim level, gets up to an EPA-estimated 28 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway.1 

Finally, we get to the available Hyundai Elantra hybrid powertrain. This one combines highly respectable performance with a whopping EPA-estimated 53 MPG on city streets and 56 MPG on the highway.2 With that sort of efficiency, you can drive around for hundreds of miles in between stops at the gas station!
