Slow starting, dim lights, and an illuminated battery warning light can all mean your battery is in trouble. If the battery fails, you’ll have to jump-start the battery to be able to drive. As your Hyundai dealer, we don’t want you to have these problems. We’d like you to know more about these signs that you need to get a new car battery from us.

Slow Starting

When you push the start button, your battery sends an electrical charge to the starter. The starter then cranks your engine, the combustion process begins, and your engine should be running in seconds. If you hear a slow, laboring sound from the engine instead of the reassuring sound of the Hyundai engine, your battery could be failing.

The laboring noises mean the starter isn’t receiving enough electricity to crank the engine to life. This could be due to an old battery that can no longer supply enough power, but it could also be caused by other issues. Loose wiring, a worn starter, or an alternator that’s not recharging the battery sufficiently can all cause this situation. We’ll examine your electrical system and repair the problem.

Dim Lights

If your headlights seem dim when the engine is switched off, this could be because the bulbs are weak and will soon fail. If you notice that your cabin and dash lights are also dim, this points to a more serious issue. When your engine is running, the alternator supplies electricity to all your car’s systems. When the engine is switched off, the battery is responsible for powering your Hyundai’s systems.

You can quickly determine if the battery is the cause of the dim lights. Start your engine and check the brightness of the lights. If the lights are brighter when your engine is running, the battery is probably failing, and we’ll need to replace it. If the lights still seem dim, our expert technicians will identify and repair the fault.

Battery Warning Light

When your engine starts, all the warning lights on the dash will be briefly illuminated and then go dark. If the battery warning light stays on, this points to an issue in the electrical system. All the important components in the electrical system have sensors connected to them. These sensors monitor their attached components and relay this information to your Hyundai computer.

A weak battery will cause the warning light to come on if its output drops below 12.5 volts. We’ll investigate the low voltage and repair the issue or replace your battery. If you suspect your battery is weakening, contact us right away at San Leandro Hyundai in San Leandro, CA.
